This is a picture of “Chimugukuru box,” created by Mieko Maeshiro, the president of Okinawa kai 2011-2012. Upon the Tohoku disaster, we tried to do “what we can do” as an organization, and we came up with this fund-raising effort. We raised around $6,300 and was donated to “Direct Relief International,” NGO based in CA, who promised to use 100% of donated money for the victims in Tohoku. “Okinawa no takaramono” is “the heart of Uchina-nchu.” This is something that we should not lose as an Okinawan. Wherever we are, we try to help each other as long as we can – this is the Okinawan spirit! This Chimugukuru Fund showed our “chimugukuru – omoi,” and this box represents our effort.
